The grand opening ceremony took place at 20:08 on Friday 11th January on St. George's Plateau.
The 10th floor at work provided a panoramic view, albeit lacking the detail available close up. However, the multiple roof-top displays were much better viewed from the higher vantage point and enabled the tripod to be used, which wouldn't have been possible surrounded by the 50,000 who were estimated to be at the event. It's also possible to gauge the scale of the whole event more accurately, with the huge cranes for the aerial performers being quite visible.
