Programme of studies:
This project involves the synthesis of novel bufenolide
steroids which can inhibit human Na+/K+ ATPases. We have
recently
discovered
an endogenous biochemical pathway that produces these
substances in volume expanded patients. Various routes to late
stage intermediates from androsterone acetate and pregneolone
are now complete.
