Current Research Activities withinThe Medicinal Chemistry Research Group

Research team: Dr. F. M. D. Ismail, Dr. M. J. Dascombe, Dr. M. G. B. Drew, A. M. Dyas, Dr. P. Riby, Dr. N. S. Isaacs, Dr. M. J. Frearson, Dr. P.G. Evans,  S. Alizadeh-Shekalgourabi, A. J. Blackaby (GSK),  N Saach (Pfizer), L Suttcliffe,and various undergraduates.

The individual research projects are listed at the side as active links. The Medicinal Chemistry Research Group consist of a consortium of Academics & industrialsists who are interested in broad aspect of medicinal Chemistry AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. In general, the principles of physical organic chemistry are applied to the refinement of lead substances such that useful properties are magnified whilst undesired effects are depressed. In this fashion, rational redesign that accounts for the physical properties of a substance as well as their response to the adsorption, ditribution, action, metabolism and elimination are used to redesign these leads into clinically useful compounds.
